2019 proved to be a successful year at Solar-Log® North America. The team started the year focused on commercial products and increasing services. By the end of 2019, Solar-Log’s commercial product sales increased by almost 40% in the U.S. and the product portfolio had a fully developed service line aptly coined Monitoring as a Service (MaaS).

The beginning of a new year is a great time to reflect on successes and to discuss what worked and why. So, for this team member spotlight, we interviewed Sales Manager, Peter Scarola, to get his thoughts on 2019.

Q: How long have you been in the solar industry and when did you start working with Solar-Log®?

A: It’s hard to believe it but, I am working on my eleventh year is this crazy little industry we call solar. It will be 3 years at Solar-Log® this June.

Q: What was your main focus at Solar-Log® in 2019?

A: At the beginning of 2019, most Solar-Log® customers were already aware of how we can help residential installers and plant owners, but there was a lag in understanding the commercial line. I focused on helping all customers take advantage of the solutions we have for commercial projects.

We consistently get feedback on how responsive, attentive and helpful our technical support team is. We wanted to help our customers even more by offering services to eliminate back-end headaches and time-consuming tasked. So, based on this feedback, we started offering Monitoring as a Service (MaaS). MaaS tools take monitoring tasks off the hands of our customers and into the hands of qualified and valued Solar-Log® technical support professionals.

Q: How did you reach your 2019 Solar-Log® goals by year-end?

A: As a team, we made some great strides in acquiring new customers, and training existing customers on our full product portfolio. Sales grew by 20%, and I am proud of that number but there are more customers out there who need our products and services, and we need to strive for more in 2020.

Q: Where do you see Solar-Log® products over the next year?

A: I see the need for increasing our fleet management service to truly have one platform for an entire solar fleet. I think the major growth in 2020 will be in our service offerings and with the software platform.

Q: What challenges did you face in 2019 and how did you overcome them?

A: The greatest challenge last year and one that I will always face is getting the message out about our superior product portfolio. Whenever I have a chance to do a side by side comparison of our products versus the competition, Solar-Log® always stands out and makes the customer say, “Wow! I didn’t know you could do that”. So, the greatest challenge will always be getting the message out there.

Q: What would people be surprised to know about you?

A: I used to be a drummer in a touring punk rock band during my college years. One you probably never heard of, but it was an invaluable experience in my life. I still play now and again.

Q: Describe yourself in 3 words.

A: Dependable, motivated, resourceful.

Q: What aspect of your job do you like the most?

A: The chance to talk with customers and prospects from all customer segments. Plus, the autonomy of being a remote employee, but having a close tight-knit family-oriented company to support me and having them to rely on.
